The Essential Apps Report

Volume 1, issue 2, April 5, 2013 Publisher: Ronald Clifford

This week we focus on business apps. These were aggregated from “best apps for business” articles recently published in Canadian business publications. We chose five based on their universal appeal.

App Tip

Apps only improve your life if you use them. We suggest a go-slow approach when adopting new ones. After downloading a new app, use it daily until it’s on your auto pilot.

Then, take on the next one. In the long run, a little patience will help you to get more from all your apps.

This tip was gleaned from discussions with dozens of app users who took on several new apps simultaneously. The result was that potentially valuable apps did not get used other than to take up icon space on a mobile’s limited screen area.

This Week’s Recommended Apps

App:  Dropbox
Purpose: Cloud storage and file synchronization
Dropbox is first on the list only because it’s one of my favorites. Everyone on our team can access the company’s files from wherever they are: in the office, at home, or on the road. Files placed in a cloud folder are also accessible through websites and mobile phone applications. Dropbox is available for all major operating platforms.

Looking Great Matters

First impressions are vitally important, especially in business. If a plumber comes to the door in an Armani suit, or looks like he could be the local drug dealer, your “beware” radar will immediately blast out negative signals.

That’s why successful businesses make sure that all visual messages directed to their target market are carefully thought through, coordinated, and professionally executed.

To ensure your business projects the look and feel of “best in its class” contact Hume Media’s design team. The scope of work includes website design, signage, brochures, sales presentations, and promotional videos.

Apps Trivia

According to Business Insider, Angry Birds is the world’s best selling app. Its publishers report over 7 million downloads.

In this game the survival of the Angry Birds is at stake. Players dish out revenge on the greedy pigs who steal their eggs ─ using the unique powers of each bird to destroy the pigs’ defenses. Angry Birds features challenging physics-based gameplay. Each level requires logic, skill, and resolve to solve.

At $1 per download, this represents revenues of over $7,000,000!

A great website = more business

It’s now standard procedure to check out competing websites before choosing a supplier. If your website doesn’t measure up – you don’t get the business.

Building a great website to showcase your organization is serious work. It requires expertise in a number of disciplines – and that’s what you get – when Hume Media builds your website or upgrades one that’s underperforming.
